Movies cultivation change significantly from time to time. One idea about movie is good until a better one comes in the market. As one era of movie goes on and pop culture changes to reflect the desires, needs and interests of common public, so does the demand for specific types of movies.

Suspense/Thriller

Popular in the 1940s and 1950s, with a revival in the 1990s. These films follow in the footsteps of the drama and were popular during and just after World War II. Think noir mystery films and courtroom dramas. In the 1990s, studios tried to make grittier, mid-budget films to compete with action blockbusters

Comedy

Comedy movies were famous in 1950s to 1980s in Hollywood. They were family oriented movies, which use good sense of humor. These movies nowadays famous in Bollywood. Punjabi movies in Bollywood use comedy genre nowadays.

Animated

Animated movies were famous in 1950s to 1980s. These movies were expensive and took a lot of time to produce. But because of their unique features, these movies were very popular in public.

You would think that popularity of comedy may have dropped as serious movies have grown up. This is totally not true. Industries continually making comedy friendly and family movies which gives pleasure to people.

Sci-fi

Science fiction first enter in industry in 1950s. In the beginning, science fiction was an offshoot of horror movies as lots of monster character performed. However, the genre changed over time.

Film Industry in 1990s and in 2000s saw a revival of Sci-fi movies. These were the block buster movies of that time. After sometime, science fiction movies replaced with superheroes films like, Spiderman, Batman etc. These movies technically considered science fiction movies.

Horror

The main purpose of horror movies to scare the audience and even shock and repulse audience. The key focus of horror movies to evoke a sense of dread in audience. However, horror movies consume less budget.

Action

Action movies are fast paced and these movies contain so many action scenes. These actions feature martial arts, superheroes or stunts. These movies focus on the execution of the plot rather than plot itself.

Epic/ Superhero

It should come as no surprise that superhero movies have dominated the box office for the past 20 years. Especially in the last 5 years (except for 2020 due to the pandemic), superhero movies have been unprecedented in box office revenue.

The key purpose of superheroes is to enhance the good qualities in public and try to tell people that if people will stand against evil, definitely evil will be defeated. The qualities of superheroes are those which  help people to be a good person in society. Different superheroes like Spiderman, Batman Harry etc are the example of superheroes or epic genre of movies.
